Belief
- An inner acceptance of an idea as true. Belief is closely related to
faith. Belief functions both consciously and subconsciously. Many false
individual and race beliefs are very active below the conscious level. To
erase these hidden error beliefs, a comprehensive program of denial is
necessary.
Hell -
Symbolized in the Bible as Gehenna, Ge Hinnom, the Valley of Hinnon—a
place outside of Jerusalem where the city’s refuse was burned. It
symbolizes that purifying fire which consumes the dross of man’s
character. Metaphysically, hell represents a corrective state of mind.
When error has reached it’s limit, the retroactive law asserts itself,
and judgment, being part of that law, brings the penalty, called hell,
upon the transgressor. This penalty is not punishment, but discipline. If
the transgressor is repentant and obedient, he is forgiven.
Heaven - The Christ
consciousness; the realm of Divine Mind; a state of consciousness in
harmony with the thoughts of God. Heaven is everywhere present. It is the
orderly, lawful adjustment of God’s kingdom in man’s mind, body, and
affairs. Jesus, of all those claiming intimate acquaintance with spiritual
things gave heaven definite location. “The kingdom of God is within you”
(Luke 17:21). Heaven is within every one of us; a place, a conscious
sphere of mind, having all the attraction described or imagined as
belonging to heaven. But this kingdom within is not material, it is
spiritual.
Sabbath -
The true Sabbath is that state of spiritual attainment where man ceases
from all personal effort and all belief in his own works, and rests in the
consciousness that “the Father abiding in me doeth his works” (John
14:10). When we under-stand the true spirit of the Sabbath, we cease
following pre-scribed rules laid down by a church and open our mind to God’s
rest and peace. We rest from outer work, cease daily occupation, and give
ourselves up to meditation or the study of things spiritual. The Sabbath
is kept any time we enter into spiritual consciousness and rest from
thoughts of temporal things. We let go of the external observance of days,
because every day is a Sabbath on which we retire into Spirit and worship
God.
Meat Eating - Meat eating stimulates the sense man and interferes with the development
of spiritual power. For many reasons it is better to abstain from a meat
diet. First, because of the command, “Thou shalt not kill” (Exod.
20:13). Injustice and cruelty react on the one who practices them, whether
he himself kills or partakes of that which has been killed for him by
others. Meat eating requires the spilling of blood, which destroys Truth
in consciousness. Destructive ideas are introduced into the stomach,
producing doubts and fears and physical inharmonies. The love of God
should be expressed toward all animals.
